I'm still on Michigan time so it's early. I load the bike, have some fruit and coffee and head out. I figure I'll put some miles down then find a spot for breakfast. I need gas so I stop at Walnut, Iowa. Very small town but there is a diner next to the McDonalds. Wouldn't you know it, there is a sign on the door announcing that they were closed on Monday. Not every Monday, just his one. Well, anyone who knows me understands that McDonalds is not a consideration for me, so I look around and spot a sign for Aunt B's diner six blocks away. I feel like I just went back in time to Mayberry so I had to check it out.
It met my level of expectation with grey haired Aunt B types working there. I had an omelet and bacon , which were good. Better be for something coming out of Aunt B's kitchen!
Both tanks full (stomach and gas) I head out. Traffic is light and I make good time. 75 mph most of the way. Once into Nebraska I cruise at 78 - 80, seeing as the speed limit is 75.
My plan is to stop around Ft. Morgan and spend the night, leaving a relatively shot trip to Jamie's the following day. Well, Ft. Morgan didn't seem to offer anything that appealed to me so I pushed on towards Denver, thinking I would find something there. Wow, never happened. The route on 76 seemed to cut right Denver and before I knew if I was on 70 West and heading into the mountains. I felt good so figured what the heck, lets keep going. About an hour later I hit Frisco and pulled into the Holiday Inn there. I would of gone to Jamie's, but I don't know where she lives. So I got a room and headed to the bar, seeing as the restaurant was closed. Ordered dinner and wine and all was good. I was just getting ready to leave when 4 Harley types came in and bellied up to the bar with me. Well, one thing led to another and I ended up getting quite wasted. Bad move, of course I blamed it on the altitude!
Tomorrow the real adventure begins...
Day 2 = 775 miles
